You'll soon be heading down that two month journey
of holiday parties decorated with an abundance of
dessert items. But first, spend part of your evening on
September 29th to discover how to keep your blood sugar
under control and what signs indicate that you may have
blood sugar control issues.
Don't eat sweets you say?
It's not only cookies, cakes and candy that can flood
your blood with sugar. So you're not off the hook.
Getting to Type 2 Diabetes takes 10-12 years of poorly
managed blood sugar. So how you manage your
blood sugar today is a strong predictor of whether
you'll experince Type 2 Diabetes in your future.
Diabetes is the leading cause of blindness, kidney
failure, and amputations. And diabetics are 2 to 4
times more likely to die of heart disease or strokes.
All in all it's estimated that diabetes will shorten a
person’s life by 10 to 15 years.
Type 2 Diabetes is largely a preventable disease.
According to the CDC, 7% of Americans in 2005
were diabetics. Looking in the future (based on
current trends) they estimate a full 1/3 of folks
born in 2000 will develop Type 2 Diabetes.
From 7% to 33% - that's a lot of people who won't
be taking active steps to control their blood
sugar! Surely not a party you want to attend.
And you won't need to after joining us on
September 29th for "Blood Sugar Control, Reducing your Risk for Diabetes"
followed by Q & A with Sandy Der, Certified
Nutrition Consultant.
The presentation is sponsored by Expanding Qi
Health Center at 1796 18th Street.
